Arquennes, Belgium

From the country where surrealism was invented.

See where this picture was taken.

PS I couldn't help posting the following image, found at

Hi Chaz, Good to see you again! I hope you are doing fine - and Twinkle of course.
I haven't given much description to the pic, but I think there is a rather 'absurd' quality to the light. Even Val, human as she is, looks as if from a different world. Sindy enhances it all with her big white lump.

about 6ft from the river?..

Hi Koos!

What a lovely place! The light IS a bit surreal. Cloudy days with the sun trying to peek through make fun with light and shadows don't they? Does Belgium border on the Normandy (province/region) of France? A main branch of my family tree comes from there.

Google Earth is so fun! I googled Rotterdam and did a little exploring. If you happened to be standing out on deck (and someone knew where to look) a person would be able to see you!

In your photo it looks like theres a bandage (big white lump) on Sindy's leg. What happened?

Love,
Rache

Hi Rache, Glad you appreciate the light - so do I, and surreal is the word that comes to mind indeed.

Pasting these coordinates to the 'fly to' window )or to the 'Search maps' window in http://maps.google.com/maps + enter takes you to my barge exactly:
51°55'9.58"N 4°29'32.05"E
The situation is not completely permanent, as my barge is now next to Val's. So now you know where to look.

Poor Sindy's paw was hit by a car, hence the plaster.

Correct, Normandy starts practically just across the Belgo-French border!
You emigrants' descendants have such interesting backgrounds!

Hi Koos!

Have you not posted a photo of that town with the canal running through it before?

I love the clothesline!

How did you find the contents of my top dresser drawer?

;)

Hi Dale
Isn't it terrible? I thought only my short-term memory was affected but it now seems the long-term version is on its way down as well.
The truth is I have only 100 pics, so now I start again from the beginning ;-)

Aww, poor Sindy. Give her lots of licks and kisses so that she may feel better.

Good to see you snapping away again.

Hi there Koos,

I lived along a river, of sorts, growing up, a sorry little thing with brown, dirty water. Wish it had been like this :-(

I know global warming is a serious thing but that's a fantastic picture, the clothes line :-)

I heard today that actually the climate is getting progressively cooler and that all this global warming stuff is a fallacy...there's a good point to ponder...mmmm

Koos, I googled your barge (betcha didn't feel a thing!) Is Val's north or south of you? Also, do you still have an inflatable raft off the stern? I think that was the stern...

Those satellite images are less current than I thought they'd be. I googled my house, too, and that one must have been taken early last year at the latest because that was the last time our camper was in the backyard.

I stayed up way too late last night googling all kinds of places - Egypt is fascinating (always!) but with Google earth you can see thousands of indentations under the sand on the west side of the Nile where there might be tombs or ruins. I love that stuff!

Poor Sindy :( Give her a big hug for me.

BTW - Those couldn't be Dale's knickers. There's not a string of pearls in sight!

But Gypsy that's interference with evidence.

Hi Maria, often things are not what they seem to be: this river is in fact a disused part of the Brussels-Charleroi canal that follows the valley of the little river Samme (not shown in this photo).

The maker of the underwear cartoon is a strong opponent of the global warming theory. And -me being me- I love the way he defends his point. You can follow the link by clicking on the cartoon if you are interested.

About those Canadians:
I feel lucky that Heart were at least Vancouver based.
There is a Canadian I follow with keen interest: Jeff Wells. His pages can be found by following the link "A brilliant Canadian" on my blogpage's sidebar.
