A new GarageBand Tune

Tonight I started a new GarageBand project, intending to include mandolin music, hence the title: Here come Mandy. This is the sketchy version, I suppose the mandolin will find a place later. I feel it is going somewhere, but exactly where I don't know yet. Maybe a comment or two will push it in some direction?

Hi Koos,

Hey, cool sounding stuff. It sounds so 70's right at the end - great groove! :)

Hi Koos,
I thought the ending had a sort of Eric Clapton feel to it- I was finding myself wanting to add some lyrics all over the place. Very 70s indeed. Love it.

Cheers,
AM

Dear Koos

That is great. I like how it builds up in intensity.
Quite an interesting sound!
I was actually able to hear it on my own computer, although it was slightly choppy. I caught most of it.

I see my fellow Canadians beat me to the punch.
There were 0 comments when I first started to listen...

Looking forward to the finished piece.
I think the mandolin should have a solo bit after it has been introduced to the mix.
Mandolins are one of my favourite stringed instruments.

Thanks so much for including us in your creative project!

Love
Dale

Hey thats fast. Great to get comments on my music.
I rarely know what to say, lyrics-wise, so if you want to contribute that we'll share the honour!

Hi Dale
Your comment came in while I was typing mine, so similar overlap.
I'm looking forward to completing this. Will resist temptation to make it too eclectic.
Good suggestion about the mandolin. Hope Val will play it for me!

Hi Koos

Me again...

I was able to change the settings on media player & got it coming in well, now.

It's great! I suggest you keep it at this eclectic level - it's perfect.

I'll see if I can Zen some lyrics up after listening several hundred times...

;)

As I said, I would be very happy to see it completed with lyrics!

In addition to Clapton, I get a slight "Battle of Evermore" vibe from it - loaded with good atmosphere, in other words........

(BTW - answered your question on my blog.......)

Koos F said...

Thanks MT, I am extending the tune now.

I like what I've heard so far. Oh yes, I'm also reminded of Sir Elton's "Holiday Inn" off his Madman Across the Water album.

Have fun with this, Mate - the end result ought to be something special.

(I'm a long-time "garage-band" enthusiast myself!)

Yes MT - slightly "Battle of Evermore"...

Hi Dale and MT
"Battle of Evermore" was unknown to me, so I searched with iTunes and yes, I hear parallels. Funny thing is several of the versions use a mandolin!

Aha!

Brushing up on your Led Zeppelin, are you, Koos...

As you may have discovered, I love garage bands. We are a poor version, but the laundry gets done.

Thank you for your comment on my blog concerning the comet picture. It was taken by someone else, not I, and was, as I said, displayed in National Geographic Magazine some years back. It is much the way things look in the desert near here. Stunning, huh?

I love your great photos and blog. Thank you for your visit to mine!

Peace,

I should add...I recently purchased a Wah (cry baby with the Fasel inductor). Your MP3 reminded me to tell you that. We like to make sounds like "Spirit", from back in the day.

Hi Dan,
The wah-sounds in the tune are of the canned variety, my own solowork will have to live without that for the time being.
Yesterday I found me a nice small VOX BM1 amp to play my replica Telecaster through. Those sounds can be expected soon in my Garage Band stuff (where Garage Band is the free software you get when buyibg an Apple computer.

First off, thanks for the comment. I treat my guitar very well. As a matter of fact, I only play it on the couch because I don't want to ding it on the chair. I'd have a fit. I let my uncle play it today and I think it weaned him off of his strat. I like mandolin music, and I'll check out your garage band(or barge band- that sounds cool) music.
