Go To The Mirror

There are plenty of traffic mirrors around if you develop an eye for them - not unlike manhole covers. Like their lowly friends, the mirrors are far from uniform.

I found most of these in Belgium.

As usual here is a film strip of the entire collection. If you want to view a slide show, please click on the strip.

Lovely mirrors, Koos. I can't believe there aren't any from the Netherlands, what with cars and humans and bikes to contend with!

I think you need to put some music to the loop, like maybe a tune by a mirror guy we know...

That first picture: I am glad they have installed that traffic mirror, Koos, as unsuspecting motorists might have otherwise driven into that tree!

But seriously, what intriguing images they produce - fascinating!

I love your mirrors Koosje. They are like ever changing art, as whatever you see in the image seems to have a life independent of that it reflects...if you get my drift.

We really need to go on another mission to find you some more to add to your collection now! xxx

....that which it reflects...sorry ;-) xxx

Koos, please excuse my ignorance, but what is a traffic mirror?

...the top one is fascinating.

Hi Dale
Thank you so much for that question, because I couldn't find a proper translation.

Verkeersspiegels - that is the Dutch version of the word - are used to help traffic participants see around the corner in tight spots.

I can imagine you don't need them in the Canadian wide, open and well organised layout. Belgium is quite the opposite of that, and Holland somewhere in between.

what an interesting concept...everything is reflected in the mirror...cosmic ...

Aha, thanks Koos!

We could use them on our biking trails to see what's hiding around the next tree or corner...

...although I'd be jumping out of my skin every time I saw a reflection.
Go to the mirror, Girl!

I see Gypsy's still out there in XP land...she can't see for the gobledeegook still stuck to her eyeballs.

Hello Koos,
how long you go to find all this mirrors? You forget one. Roger Daltrey with the cover from "One of the Boys".
All the best
Stefan

Hi Stefan
You are right about the Roger Daltrey album cover, but please look at Ahvarahn's profile picture higher up on this comment page. That's the (Belgian!!!) original.
So it isn't really missing...
Taking the pictures took me about a year.

The barge is back in the water, Monday is the regular day for that on our shipyard.

Dear Koos,

Your blogs are inspiring me to go out in this huge metropolis that I live in with my camera to take some photos of some manhole covers and other unique things we have here. What can I say except thanks! Now all I need to do is find the time (hopefully on the week-end).

Lac St-Jean is hundreds of kilometres away from Lake MacDonald. In European standards, it would be a couple of countries away. Lake MacDonald, or Lac MacDonald as the Quebec politians would prefer it to be called is close to Lost River, Lakeview, Pine Hill, which are tiny towns. The larger towns nearby are St. Jovite (Mt. Tremblant) and Lachute. Maybe this will help you locate it.

Hi Dale
The irresistible couldn't resist it.

Thanks Lannio, you bet I'll find it now!

Koos, I just came from Lannio's blog.

Next thing we know, you'll be knocking at our doors...

Hi Koos,

I knew you'd find it! Google isn't fond of putting rural part of earth in high res, but hopefully you'll get a good idea of the lake. Dale and I spent every summer of our youth at the bottom tip of the lake (the small part). It was our family summer cottage, which our parents now live in all year around.

Not sure how clear you see it. Here's a URL I use when looking for directions.
