Tonight was time for band practice. We play traditionals like Auld Lang Syne and Amazing Grace and -how shall I put it- we do our best.From left to right our friend Bruce, on bagpipe (what else, he's Scottish), Jodie, Val's daughter on violin, myself on a Hand Crafted (it says) Kasuga folk guitar, VallyP on mandolin and Janet on whatever that Irish handheld percussion thing is called (bodhran).
Dog Sindy joined us for the photo-op. She normally listens to the music from her doggy bed.
The thing you can't see between my fingers may look like a pick, but it is a remote control to trigger the camera. Clever stuff, that.

Bruce and Janet own this classical Belgian barge, Velocette, after the famous motorcycle brand -they used to own one.
To get on board and off they need to climb over a barge called Ontario. There is a lot of Canada in the air these days.
Bruce was 22 at the 1969 Woodstock festival, when Pete removed Abbie Hoffman from the stage.
There is more. He was an extra in 2 films: Tommy and Quadrophenia. In the latter he was one of the rockers on a motorbike.

I saw that photo of you all on Val's barge, playing in your band, & I thought of how you must live such a different life than ours - yet it is the same because of its uniqueness.
You look so happy & content in the cosy living quarters doing what you love to do.
My husband is Scottish & one of my favourite instruments are the bagpipes, too. I also love Amazing Grace...
Although my life is so different, it is the same in many ways.
BTW while I was going on about how "yucky" I think eel pie would be, I forgot to mention that, like my dear friend PTfan, Quad is my all time favourite Who album.
It was the album that, years ago, opened my eyes to the genius behind it all - Pete. It was then that I became entangled in this whole thing...
And I don't regret one minute of it!
I love smoked oysters, smoked mussels, squid, fish (especially salmon), octopus, but I have never tried eel.
Maybe I should...
Just keep it out of my pie!

I did not know that Pete was an apprentice boat builder.
I did know that he was an editor at Barnes & Noble, though.
I also did know that he loves boats & boating, so it doesn't surprise me.
Also, my husband, as well as being Scottis like Bruce, was a boat builder years ago at the docks in Toronto on Lake Ontario.

dat is zeker een leuke tijd voor jullie sailors, wat klussen en boot checken, enzovoort, leuk.
Dat maatje van mij met een echte boot ook, had wel zijn vleugel beneden in het ruim, hoe hij dat deed, kan ik mij nu, dat ik daaraan denk, niet bedenken hoe hij het voor elkaar gekregen heeft.
Ja, ik kan het wel voorstellen, als er z'on Indiase zomer is ooit, de kanaal oversteken, maar je weet nooit wanneer het weer veranderd, voor wat het terug komen betreft, dat zou kunnen betekenen dat je achter Oceanic studios zou moeten schuilen. Dat foto van Oceanic met Piet zijn boot achter, leek alsof de studio klein is, maar dan, proberend het in perspectief te krijgen realiseerde ik mij dat z'on 'barge' best lang is. Wat een leuke plek eh Koos, want stel je voor dat je daar woonde en dan achter je huis de Theems op kon. ik vraag het mij af of Piet zijn boot gebruikt.

I was saying the sun was shining today and I feel spring is on its way. I wondered too whether Piet uses his barge. And really, I didn't say too much more, because, I'm too lazy to translate it all now, and will remember to write in English next time, maybe double English, whatever that is.
