A Quick One about band practice

Tonight was time for band practice. We play traditionals like Auld Lang Syne and Amazing Grace and -how shall I put it- we do our best.

From left to right our friend Bruce, on bagpipe (what else, he's Scottish), Jodie, Val's daughter on violin, myself on a Hand Crafted (it says) Kasuga folk guitar, VallyP on mandolin and Janet on whatever that Irish handheld percussion thing is called (bodhran).
Dog Sindy joined us for the photo-op. She normally listens to the music from her doggy bed.
The thing you can't see between my fingers may look like a pick, but it is a remote control to trigger the camera. Clever stuff, that.
Pictures taken aboard Val's barge Vereeniging.
Bruce and Janet own this classical Belgian barge, Velocette, after the famous motorcycle brand -they used to own one.
To get on board and off they need to climb over a barge called Ontario. There is a lot of Canada in the air these days.
Bruce was 22 at the 1969 Woodstock festival, when Pete removed Abbie Hoffman from the stage.
There is more. He was an extra in 2 films: Tommy and Quadrophenia. In the latter he was one of the rockers on a motorbike.

Their barge lies here.

Love to all of you,

Dear Koos

I saw that photo of you all on Val's barge, playing in your band, & I thought of how you must live such a different life than ours - yet it is the same because of its uniqueness.

You look so happy & content in the cosy living quarters doing what you love to do.
My husband is Scottish & one of my favourite instruments are the bagpipes, too. I also love Amazing Grace...

Although my life is so different, it is the same in many ways.

BTW while I was going on about how "yucky" I think eel pie would be, I forgot to mention that, like my dear friend PTfan, Quad is my all time favourite Who album.
It was the album that, years ago, opened my eyes to the genius behind it all - Pete. It was then that I became entangled in this whole thing...
And I don't regret one minute of it!

I love smoked oysters, smoked mussels, squid, fish (especially salmon), octopus, but I have never tried eel.
Maybe I should...
Just keep it out of my pie!
LOL

Thanks so much for sharing with us!

Love
Dale

Me again...

I did not know that Pete was an apprentice boat builder.
I did know that he was an editor at Barnes & Noble, though.
I also did know that he loves boats & boating, so it doesn't surprise me.

Also, my husband, as well as being Scottis like Bruce, was a boat builder years ago at the docks in Toronto on Lake Ontario.

Hi to Sindy, too!

Scottis?

Koos,
that jamming looks like great fun. We've often had jams at our teacher parties, and they were always great fun.

Oh, and Quad is also my favourite Who album. I loved the movie too.

Hi Koos,

thanks for linking my pages up.
That looks fun, do I spy Jenever, ai tis to keep out the winter draft.
Scottish people are not enbtirely unknown to be liking a wee dram.
Thanks for the link to that Dutch poet John O Mill, wonderful stuff.
I'll be looking into his stuff niow, I love poetry and nonsense too. i mean, John Lennon as well wrote some beautiful nonsense, we do understand it wasn't nonsense of course in being no good, the intention was nonsense.

I'd rather have fingers than toes;
I'd rather have ears than a nose;
And as for my hair,
I'm glad it's all there;
I'll be awfully sad, when it goes!

Is getting to be quite a bore!

Er was eens een damen uit Utreq
haar man was een total vrek
I see through the door
but wij moeten ervan door
zongen ze sailing over the lek

de lek had een stop

de man had een mouse
de muis had een house
de snert werd een erwt
en dat deed zo hurt
en dat was the worst

so Koos
as you see I'm not too good at writing nonsense.
I see now there is good nonsense
but my nonsense is bad
so it must be nonsense that is truly nonsense, I ask myself is good nonsense also not plain nonsense? Can any nonsense make sense and still be called nonsense?

Hi Dale,
We discover the things we have in common... it creates a bond.
Went to the market round the corner, the market of Rotterdam, could not resist the eel and enjoyed it no end. Very good against cholesterol.

Barnes and Noble? And Faber & Faber?
When I was in Toronto, my interest in ships and shipyards was low. Missed the shipyards. Now gone I suppose?

Anne-Marie, we could setup a transcontinental online jam. And don't say it won't happen...

Elke, too much honour, mistake me for Mr T ;-)

Hi, I Am Terry, see? You are really quite familiar with Dutch language.
How about one mouse, two mice; one house, two hice?
I suppose nonsense is paradoxal: only real nonsense makes sense, or the other way round of course.

VallyP now accepts non-bloggers' comments as well - and had no need to ask me. My heroine.

PTFan,
Lin in Colorado wants to live on a barge too. Start a group? A trend?

About Bruce, he is so unmoved about it. Says: 'you can see me in Quadrophenia' without even blinking!

Love for allaya again, we're off for the weekend.

Hi Koos

doeeiiiii

Terry

for those who speak neither Dutch or double Dutch
I was saying the sun was shining today and I feel spring is on its way. I wondered too whether Piet uses his barge. And really, I didn't say too much more, because, I'm too lazy to translate it all now, and will remember to write in English next time, maybe double English, whatever that is.

greetings to all from

Terry
